A Fashion Tale – AW 2009/10 Collection by independent designer Erika Hendrix

Season two’s runner-up of Germany’s Next Top Model, Anni Wendler, models the AW collection this time around. The new collection illustrates Erika Hendrix’s signature style of integrating both feminine and tomboyish looks into her designs, and presents a wide array of skirts and dresses, baggy hooded sweaters, as well as her line of accessories and brooches.

Sizes run from XS-L, and prices range from 35€-140€. International shipping is available through Erika Hendrix’s website, and direct orders may be purchased at her boutique in Mannheim, Germany.

About Erika Hendrix:
Born in Giessen, Germany in 1984, Erika has always had an interest in design. During an internship in interior design, Erika began designing and sewing shirts in 2002 as an outlet for her creative energies. In 2005, she created her own independent fashion label called Erika Hendrix, and shops & boutiques all around Germany began carrying her line of shirts. Since then, the label has expanded in accessories, jewelry, dresses, skirts, and shorts.

Mary-Kate Olsen’s bohemian, bag-lady look may get slammed by fashion police. But it has just been praised by the country’s top designers.

The 23-year-old mini-mogul, along with twin sister Ashley, joins New York-based designers Alexander Wang and Jason Wu as some of the newest members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

The Olsens were among 31 designers inducted into the couture cathedral this year. “We are proud to welcome these 31 new members into the CFDA family and we are excited to add such a variety of creative talent to our ranks,” CFDA executive director Steven Kolb said in the Tuesday announcement.

The twins are honored for their clothing lines, Elizabeth and James (named for the twins’ sister and brother), and The Row, a high-end fashion line inspired by London’s Savile Row. The nod is a sign of respect among the industry, which normally frowns upon celebrities making a second career as designers.

The ladies may have CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg to thank directly for the honor.

Furstenberg dressed the attention-grabbing pair for The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala last year.

I would rather have a booty than NO booty at all. This line celebrates the beautiful curves of a Woman’s body. Sexy, hip-hugging silhouettes with a hint of a vintage feel. :)

JIBRI High Fashion Plus Line – Jasmine Elder of JIBRI Debuts Her Fall 09′ Collection
at The Art of Fashion Event in New York

Brooklyn, NY (July 2, 2009) — The highly anticipated release of the JIBRI Fall 09′
collection is finally here. Designer, Jasmine Elder, will be debuting her Fall 09′
collection at The Art of Fashion event that will take place on August 1, 2009 at the
Dumbo Lofts in Brooklyn, New York.  This event will be hosted by Li’stA, an enclave
for the upwardly mobile and socially conscious; promoting change through artistic
commonality. The JIBRI collection will be showcased along with two other up and
coming designers and a portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the High 5
Organization, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the arts
affordable for teens.

A native of Atlanta, Jasmine Elder started creating garments at a very young age.
She has lived in both New York and London as a design student. She decided to start
the JIBRI line in 2006 and has never looked back. The JIBRI  line is dedicated to
creating garments for the fashion-conscious curvy woman and is inspired by vintage
cinema, music, art, powerful female figures and underground culture. With a keen eye
on construction and unique fabrics, Jasmine always thinks about the woman who will
wear her garments first, then creates well structured pieces that will flatter that
woman’s body and express her design inspiration. Rio of Li’stA says, “Jasmine Elder
has her fingers on the pulse of style and is currently breathing new life into the
art of fashion.”

The JIBRI Fall 09′ collection will be a visual pleasure. Jasmine worked with
diffused metallic colors along with graphic prints. The fabrics are functional, but
luxurious and the silhouettes are sensuous, but structured. Think Grace Jones meets
Grace Kelly. As always, the line will include updated closet staples and one of a
kind pieces. “I anticipate this will be the best collection JIBRI has put out yet.”,
says Chastity Garner of Garner Style.

The Art of Fashion is an evening event that will showcase up and coming fashion
designers. It will include a pre-show cocktail reception, showings of three designer
collections and an after party with the designers, models and a celebrity DJ.  “The
Li’stA spirit embodies a collaboration of artists with a variety of different
perspectives. I really wanted to show how the art of high fashion plus size design
would add to that diversity.” says Jasmine Elder on why she wanted to participate in
this event.

From industrial design, to learning how to manipulate a tiny little space into a cozy nook . . .  Scandinavians they have perfected sleek, modern, minimal structure. I know this, because I have actually been to Oslo, Norway . . .  enjoyed long-drives in Sweden (“How do you pronounce the name of the city again???”) and taken a cruise into Hirtshals, Denmark. There were things I had never seen or heard of that I am only seeing in Toronto, NOW.
These two lovely Norwegians have clearly made a statement with their latest dark palette. I am a huge fan. HUGE.

Last week, I received an invite to try a tour on Tuesday July 7th, 2009 at 3:00pm at Tealish (Queen West in Toronto). I am very excited! Local and boutique shopping have become not only a huge trend, but a favourite to many Women and Men out there. There’s a sense of isolation from fashions mainstream mall mayhem and predictable yet awkward “Oh, I know where you got THAT outfit” situations.

A bit more about Wendy and THE REFINERY -

She started the boutique shopping tours as a way to combine her passions for image consulting, small Canadian business, and helping women succeed.  Wendy lives by the philosophy that “fashion is a business; personal style is what you choose to wear to compliment your unique body, personality, colouring and lifestyle.”

“Avoid the Mall, Shop Local”
Wendy is a big supporter of local designers and can even take you on a designer studio tour. Wendy tries to steer her clients towards shopping at local boutiques.  There are so many designer shops to be explored. Weny’s mantra is avoid the mall, shop local.

Her tours run year round! For information about tours, go to http://www.therefinery.ca/boutique_shopping_tours/. You can check her complete tour schedule by clicking here

Don’t forget to check www.therefinery.ca for more of Wendy’s styling tips – below are my two favourite ones.
